Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 3:31

"And there come his mother and his brethren; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him." — Mark 3:31 (ASV)

Mark now returns to the family of Jesus. They did not enter the place where he was, but stood outside and sent someone in to call him. Since only Jesus’ mother and brothers are mentioned, Joseph was probably no longer alive.
