Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 3:32

"And a multitude was sitting about him; and they say unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee." — Mark 3:32 (ASV)

When Jesus was told that his mother and his brothers were looking for him, he responded by asking, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then with a sweep of his eyes over those seated in a circle around him (including his disciples), he identified his true family. Those who had responded to his call to be with him were spiritually far closer than blood relatives.
