Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 3:33

"And he answereth them, and saith, Who is my mother and my brethren?" — Mark 3:33 (ASV)

When Jesus was told that his mother and his brothers were looking for him, he responded by asking, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then with a sweep of his eyes over those seated in a circle around him (including his disciples), he identified his true family. Those who had responded to his call to be with him were spiritually far closer than blood relatives.
