Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 5:17

"And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders." — Mark 5:17 (ASV)

The people decided it was time for Jesus to leave their region. In fact, out of fear, ignorance, and selfishness, they pleaded with him to leave. If the mighty force at work in Jesus could destroy an entire herd of pigs, might not this power strike again with even more serious consequences? Jesus complied with their request, for he does not stay where he is not wanted.
