Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 5:26

"and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse," — Mark 5:26 (ASV)

At this point Mark inserts the story of the healing of the woman with a hemorrhage. The precise nature of the woman’s ailment is not stated. Probably some sort of uterine disease caused the bleeding that had persisted for twelve years. Mark includes vivid details: she had suffered much, had been treated by many doctors, and had spent all she had. But her condition had gotten worse.
