Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 6:29

"And when his disciples heard [thereof], they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb." — Mark 6:29 (ASV)

Mark ends the shocking story with John’s disciples coming for the body to give it proper burial. Herod no doubt thought that he was now finished with the righteous prophet. But this was not to be. The ministry of Jesus stirred up Herod’s memories of John, and his fears returned.
