Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Matthew 13:18

"Hear then ye the parable of the sower." — Matthew 13:18 (ASV)

Jesus now asks his disciples to listen to an explanation of the parable of the soils. The general point is that the “message about the kingdom” (v.19) receives a varied reception among various people, and that during this time of difficulty and frustration there is an implied delay while the seed produces in some soils its various yields. The interpretation therefore demands that each person examine how he or she “hears” (GK 201) the message.
