Matthew 21:8

SCRIPTURE

"And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way." — Matthew 21:8 (ASV)

The two disciples returned from their errand (v.6) and put their outer garments on the beasts—both animals were in the procession (v.7). Jesus sat “on them” (probably the garments, not both animals). A “very large crowd” spread their cloaks on the road, acknowledging Jesus’ kingship (cf. 2 Kings 9:13). Still others “cut branches” and “spread them” on the road.
