"Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers." — Matthew 23:32 (ASV)

The conclusion is defiant and ironical. The idea behind “the measure of the sin” is that God can only tolerate so much sin; then, when the measure is “filled up” (GK 4444) he must respond in wrath (cf. Genesis 15:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:14–16).
