Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come." — Matthew 24:14 (ASV)
But none of this means that the Gospel of the kingdom of heaven is not preached or that its saving message does not spread throughout the world. Despite persecution—and often because of it (Acts 8:1, 4) —the Good News is “preached as a testimony to all nations.” This expression is itself neutral , and the Gospel will bring either salvation or a curse, depending on how it is received. Thus the theme of Gentile mission is again made explicit (see comments on 1:1, 2:1–12; 4:15–16; 28:18–20).
