"And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover." — Matthew 26:19 (ASV)
The disciples (perhaps only two of them, Mark 14:13) are told to find an unnamed person, who would show them a room to prepare for Jesus’ final Passover meal. His words “My appointed time is near” were probably purposely ambiguous. To the disciples and the owner of the house, they may have implied Jesus’ timing for the Passover meal and prior arrangements for it. In the light of Easter, the words must refer to the now impending Crucifixion, the fulfillment of Jesus’ mission.
The disciples do as Jesus has instructed them. He is quietly and consciously taking the necessary steps to complete his mission of tragedy and glory.
