"Then released he unto them Barabbas; but Jesus he scourged and delivered to be crucified." — Matthew 27:26 (ASV)

On flogging, see comment on Mk 15:15. Jesus’ flogging took place before the verdict and so was not repeated after the verdict. Pilate, after further entreaty , “handed him over to be crucified.”
