John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Brethren, let each man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God." — 1 Corinthians 7:24 (ASV)
Let him abide with God. I have already noted above that people are not bound here by a perpetual necessity that would prevent them from ever having the power to change their condition, if a suitable occasion for it should arise; but also that Paul simply restrains those thoughtless impulses which hurry people here and there, so that they are troubled by continual restlessness. Therefore, Paul says that it is all the same in God's sight what a person’s way of life is in this world, since this diversity does not prevent agreement in piety.
