SCRIPTURE

"For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything." — 1 Thessalonians 1:8 (ASV)

For from you sounded forth. Here we have an elegant metaphor, by which he suggests that their faith was so vibrant that it, as it were, by its sound, aroused other nations. For he says that the word of God sounded forth from them, since their faith was sonorous in procuring credibility for the gospel. He says that this had not only occurred in neighboring places, but this sound had also extended far and wide and had been distinctly heard, so that it did not need to be published by him.
