John Calvin Commentary 1 Timothy 2:11

"Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection." — 1 Timothy 2:11 (ASV)

Let a woman learn in quietness. After discussing dress, he now adds with what modesty women ought to conduct themselves in the holy assembly. And first, he instructs them to learn quietly, for quietness means silence, so that they may not take it upon themselves to speak in public. He immediately explains this more clearly by forbidding them to teach.
