John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace also." — 2 Corinthians 8:6 (ASV)
That we should exhort Titus. Now this is an exhortation that has greater force when they learn that they are expressly summoned to duty. Nor was it offensive to the Macedonians that he desired to have the Corinthians as partners in beneficence. Meanwhile, a defense is offered for Titus, so that the Corinthians may not think that he pressed too hard upon them, as if he lacked confidence in their good disposition. For he did that because he had been urged, and it was rather in the name of the Macedonians than in his own.
