"to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place." — Acts 1:25 (ASV)
Of the ministry and apostleship. Because the word ministry was humble, he adds apostleship, in which there is greater dignity; although the meaning will be clearer if you explain it as “the ministry of the apostleship.” For the figure hypallage is common in the Scriptures. Certainly, Luke meant to join with the burden the excellence of the office, that it might have greater reverence and authority; and yet it was also his intent to declare that the apostles are called to a painful function.
