John Calvin Commentary Acts 13:49

"And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region." — Acts 13:49 (ASV)

The word of the Lord was spread abroad. Luke does in this place declare the progress of the gospel; in this, it appears how true the parable of Christ is, when He says that it is like leaven (Luke 13:21). We heard before that there was a great gathering of people, so that the seed of true doctrine was sown throughout the whole city. Luke says now that it was spread farther, namely, throughout the whole country.
