John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked." — Acts 14:10 (ASV)
He said with a loud voice. Many old books, and those of great credit, add, I say to you in the name of Jesus Christ, and surely we see how careful the apostles were to magnify the name of Christ in all miracles. Therefore, I think that this was expressed by Luke, even though we do not commonly find it now in printed books or copies.
Luke says afterwards that the lame man leaped up. This serves not only to commend God’s power, but such readiness and willingness to obey also testified that he was rightly prepared by the Lord, so that he was already walking in his mind when his feet were still dead.
Although his speed in rising made the power of God more manifest, Paul also exalted his voice for this purpose: that the sudden change might more powerfully move the multitude.
