John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews." — Acts 17:10 (ASV)
They sent them out to Berea. This shows that Paul’s labor bore fruit in a short time; for although the brothers sent him and Silas away, they also willingly joined them as companions in their danger and cross through this duty. But Paul’s steadfastness is remarkable. For, having experienced so much of his nation’s stubbornness and malice, he never ceased trying to bring anyone to Christ; indeed, knowing that he was obligated to both Jews and Gentiles, no injury from men could turn him from his calling.
Therefore, all servants of Christ must so wrestle with the world’s malice that they do not shake off Christ’s yoke, no matter by what injuries they are provoked.
