SCRIPTURE

"But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed of Paul at Beroea also, they came thither likewise, stirring up and troubling the multitudes." — Acts 17:13 (ASV)

And when the Jews. We see how the Jews were carried to and fro with such hatred of the gospel as could never be appeased. For they not only expel Christ furiously when he is offered to them at home, but when they hear that he is preached elsewhere, they run there like madmen.

But in this situation, we must not focus so much on the fury of the nation as on the desperate malice of Satan, who spurs on those who are his to trouble the kingdom of Christ and to destroy man’s salvation, and uses them as instruments to incite sedition.

Therefore, let us recognize that when today so many furious enemies set themselves against the faithful ministers of Christ, it is not men who procure the war. Instead, it is Satan, the father of lying, who is doing all these things so that he may overthrow the kingdom of Christ (John 8:44).

And although there is not always the same form in fighting and encountering, yet Satan will never cease to weary those whom he knows faithfully serve Christ, either with open war, secret lying in wait, or internal conflicts.
