SCRIPTURE

"This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses." — Acts 2:32 (ASV)

This Jesus After he had proved by the testimony of David that it was essential for Christ to rise again, he says that he and the rest of his companions were witnesses who saw him with their own eyes after his resurrection. For this text does not allow the phrase raised up to be interpreted in any other way. From this it follows that what David foretold concerning Christ was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.

Next, he addresses the fruit or effect. For it was necessary for him to declare first that Christ is alive. Otherwise, it would have been an absurd and incredible thing for him to be the author of so great a miracle. Nevertheless, he also teaches us that he did not rise for his own sake alone, but so that he might make the whole Church partaker of his life, having poured out the Spirit.
