SCRIPTURE

"And he shall come into the realm of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land." — Daniel 11:9 (ASV)

This clause belongs to the previous verse; as if to say, Ptolemy will return by a peaceful march after this hostile invasion of Syria. For he might have had some fears that his enemy would not be completely defeated. But as he departed as conqueror, the angel announces his safe arrival in his own land.

The words “come” and “return” are used emphatically, implying the absence of all trouble, fear, and danger. He returned to his kingdom and his own land, since he could not trust in the quietness of the enemies whom he had defeated. It continues:
