John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which Jehovah shall choose:" — Deuteronomy 12:26 (ASV)
Only thy holy things. This passage more clearly explains what was meant by the previous precepts, namely, that only one place was set apart for the performance of their sacred rites, lest, if each person should offer wherever they pleased, religion would be corrupted, and gradually the various altars would give rise to as many gods. He therefore commands that all the victims should be sacrificed on one altar, with the provision that the blood should be poured out.
