"That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee." — Deuteronomy 16:20 (ASV)

That which is altogether just131 Through emphatic repetition, God impresses upon judges that they should diligently pursue equity with unwavering steadfastness; and this is not done without reason, for it is very common for people's minds to be clouded by favoritism or hatred. Moreover, there are so many quibbles by which justice is perverted that, unless judges are very vigilant against deception, they will often find themselves ensnared.
