John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, ye provoked Jehovah to wrath." — Deuteronomy 9:22 (ASV)
And at Taberah. He briefly refers to several cases by which he aims to convince the people of their ingratitude and persistent obstinacy, and thus of their corrupt nature: for it is as if he had said that they had been rebellious against God not only once, nor in just one particular way, but that they had heaped up many offenses, so that it was astonishing that God had pardoned them so often.
He also recounts the names given to the places as memorials of their sins, so that they might finally cease to transgress, since, although provoked so often, God had already tolerated them for too long.
