John Calvin Commentary
"And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?" — Genesis 12:18 (ASV)
And Pharaoh called Abram. Pharaoh justly remonstrates with Abram, who was primarily at fault. No answer from Abram is recorded here; and perhaps he accepted the just and true rebuke. It is, however, possible that Abram's defense was omitted by Moses, as his purpose was to give an example of divine providence in preserving Abram and vindicating his marriage. But, although Abram knew that he was suffering the due punishment for his folly or his unreasonable caution, he nevertheless relapsed, as we shall see in its proper place, a second time into the same fault.
