John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Out of the Asher his bread shall be fat, And he shall yield royal dainties." — Genesis 49:20 (ASV)
Out of Asher. The inheritance of Asher is only briefly mentioned, which he declares will be fruitful in the best and finest wheat, so that it will need no foreign supply of food, having abundance at home. By royal dainties, he means those that are exquisite. Should anyone object that it is not a great thing to be fed with nutritious and pleasant bread, I answer: we must consider the intended purpose, namely, that by this they might know that they were fed by the paternal care of God.
