John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"They bear it upon the shoulder, they carry it, and set it in its place, and it standeth, from its place shall it not remove: yea, one may cry unto it, yet can it not answer, nor save him out of his trouble." — Isaiah 46:7 (ASV)
They shall carry them on the shoulder. The picture is still more heightened by the description contained in this verse; for, since the idols have no feeling of any kind, those who resort to them to ask assistance must be not only very stupid but very obstinate.
