John Calvin Commentary Jeremiah 27:14

"And hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you." — Jeremiah 27:14 (ASV)

He repeats the same words that we have encountered before; therefore, there is no need to dwell on them at length here. Yet the repetition was not superfluous, for he had a difficult struggle with the false prophets, who had gained great authority. Since Jeremiah alone confronted the entire crowd, most of them might have objected, saying that in such perplexing matters there was nothing certain or clear. Therefore, since it was not easy to convince the Jews who were inclined to believe the false prophets, it was necessary to say the same thing often, as we will also see later. He adds, —
