"And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was at the first baptizing; and there be abode." — John 10:40 (ASV)

He went away beyond Jordan. Christ passed beyond Jordan, that he might not have to fight continually without any advantage. He has therefore taught us, by his example, that we ought to make use of opportunities when they occur. As to the place of his retreat, the reader may consult the observations which I have made on John 1:28.
