SCRIPTURE

"Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true." — John 8:17 (ASV)

Even in your law it is written. The argument might, at first glance, appear to be weak, because no one is accepted as a witness in their own case. But we should remember what I have already said, that the Son of God should be excluded from the ordinary category of other human beings, because he is neither a private individual, nor does he conduct his own private business. As for his distinguishing himself from his Father, in doing so he accommodates himself to the understanding of his hearers, and that because of his office, since he was at that time a servant of the Father, from whom, therefore, he asserts all his doctrine has originated.
