John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the sojourner, as for the home-born: for I am Jehovah your God." — Leviticus 24:22 (ASV)
You shall have one manner of law. So that the people of Israel, with their usual arrogance, might not suppose that only the descendants of Abraham were privileged, the Law is also extended to foreigners. And in this way, God shows that the entire human race is under His care, so that He would not have those who are furthest away exposed to the licentious violence of the ungodly.
In other matters, He provided special privileges for His chosen people. But here, because He created all people without exception in His own image, He takes them under His care and protection, so that no one might injure them with impunity.
