John Calvin Commentary
"These are the commandments, which Jehovah commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai." — Leviticus 27:34 (ASV)
These are the commandments. This first passage commends the Law, which was proclaimed and written on the two tables, along with the declarations that were added to it, to explain God's mind more fully. For God not only set forth the Decalogue but also interpreted what He briefly summed up in it. Moreover, Moses seeks to convince them of this doctrine, first, based on its authority, because it was delivered by God; and secondly, because he had not taken on the role of lawgiver but had been appointed by God and called to undertake it. He demands obedience from the children of Israel because he had been sent to them as their teacher and master.
