SCRIPTURE

"And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:" — Luke 24:52 (ASV)

And having worshipped him, they returned. By the word worship, Luke means, first, that the apostles were relieved of all doubt, because at that time Christ's majesty shone all around, so that there was no longer any room for doubting his resurrection; and, secondly, that for the same reason they began to honor him with greater reverence than when they had enjoyed his company on earth.

For the worship mentioned here was rendered to him not only as Master or Prophet, nor even as the Messiah, whose character had been only partially known, but as the King of glory and the Judge of the world.

Since Luke intended to give a longer narrative, he only briefly states what the apostles did during those ten days. In essence, through the fervor of their joy, they openly broke out into the praises of God, and were continually in the temple; not that they remained there day and night, but that they attended the public assemblies and were present at the regular, appointed hours to render thanksgiving to God.

This joy is contrasted with the fear that had previously kept them withdrawn and hidden at home.
