John Calvin Commentary Luke 4:20

"And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him." — Luke 4:20 (ASV)

The eyes of all who were in the synagogue. God touched their hearts, I do not doubt, with astonishment, which made them more attentive and induced them to listen to Christ while he was speaking. For they must have been withheld from opposing this discourse at the beginning, or from breaking it off in the middle, since, as we shall see, they were sufficiently disposed to treat Christ with contempt.
