SCRIPTURE

"But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me." — Matthew 15:25 (ASV)

And she came and worshipped him. We might be inclined to think that this woman contends with some obstinacy, as if she would wrest something from Christ against his will; but there is no reason to doubt that she was motivated by the conviction she held concerning the Messiah's kindness. When Christ expressly declared that it was not part of his office, she was not intimidated by that refusal and did not abandon her purpose. The reason was that she adhered firmly to that previously mentioned conviction of faith, and she accepted nothing that opposed her hope. And this is the sure test of faith: that we do not allow that general beginning of our salvation, which is founded on the word of God, to be torn from us in any way.
