John Calvin Commentary Matthew 25:10

"And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut." — Matthew 25:10 (ASV)

And the door was shut. Finally, it follows that the door of the heavenly kingdom will be shut against all who have not made provision, because they failed in the middle of the course. We must not enter here into minute inquiries, how Christ says that the foolish virgins went to buy, for it simply means that all who are not ready at the very moment when they are called will be shut out from entering into heaven.
