SCRIPTURE

"Hear, O Jehovah, when I cry with my voice: Have mercy also upon me, and answer me." — Psalms 27:7 (ASV)

Hear, O Jehovah! my voice. The Psalmist returns to prayer, and in doing so, he declares with what armor he was equipped to break through his temptations. By the word cry, he expresses his vehemence, as I have elsewhere said, so that in this way he might move God to help him sooner. For the same purpose, also, he a little later mentions his misery, because the more the faithful are oppressed, the more their very need induces God to extend his favor towards them.
