John Calvin Commentary

John Calvin Commentary
"Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, According as we have hoped in thee." — Psalms 33:22 (ASV)
Let thy mercy be on us, O Jehovah! Finally, the psalm concludes with a prayer, which the sacred writer offers in the name of all the godly: that God would let them experience that they have not relied on divine goodness in vain.
Meanwhile, the Spirit, by dictating this rule of prayer to us through the prophet, teaches us that the gate of divine grace is opened for us when salvation is neither sought nor hoped for from any other source. This passage also offers a very precious comfort: namely, that if our hope does not falter during our journey, we have no reason to fear that God will fail to continue His mercy toward us, without interruption, to the very end.
