John Gill Commentary 1 Chronicles 28:3

"But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build a house for my name, because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood." — 1 Chronicles 28:3 (ASV)

But God said to me, you shall not build an house for my
name
This he said by Nathan the prophet, (2 Samuel 7:5)

because you have been a man of war, and have shed blood :
