John Gill Commentary 1 Kings 1:43

"And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king:" — 1 Kings 1:43 (ASV)

And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, indeed Or, "nay, but" ^F11 it is not so as you imagine; it is not good tidings, but bad tidings I bring to you: our lord King David has made Solomon king; of which he gives the following account in proof of it.
