John Gill Commentary 1 Kings 11:35

"but I will take the kingdom out of his son`s hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes." — 1 Kings 11:35 (ASV)

But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand
All but the tribes of Judah and Benjamin:

and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes :
signified by ten pieces of the rent garment he had given him, (1 Kings 11:31) .
