John Gill Commentary Esther 4:6

"So Hathach went forth to Mordecai unto the broad place of the city, which was before the king`s gate." — Esther 4:6 (ASV)

So Hatach went forth to Mordecai, to the street of the city ,
&c.] Where he was, in a public manner, expressing his grief and sorrow:
which was before the king's gate :
that led to the royal palace.
