John Gill Commentary Judges 11:28

"Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him." — Judges 11:28 (ASV)

However, the king of the children of Ammon did not listen to
the words of Jephthah which he sent to him .
] He attended not to the arguments Jephthah made use of, and did not choose to seem convinced by them, at least, nor to regard the awful appeal he had made to the great Jehovah.
