John Gill Commentary Leviticus 26:7

"And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword." — Leviticus 26:7 (ASV)

And you shall chase your enemies Who being overcome in battle, and put to the flight, should be pursued: and they shall fall before you by the sword ; not by the sword of one another, as the Midianites did, (Judges 7:21Judges 7:22) , so Jarchi; but rather by the sword of the Israelites, for often multitudes of the enemy are killed in a pursuit.
