John Gill Commentary Luke 5:22

"But Jesus perceiving their reasonings, answered and said unto them, Why reason ye in your hearts?" — Luke 5:22 (ASV)

But when Jesus perceived their thoughts Being God omniscient;

he answering said to them, what are you reasoning in your hearts ? This he said, not as being ignorant what their reasonings were, for it was said before he perceived their thoughts, but to expose the wickedness of them; in one copy of Beza's it is added, "evil things", as in (Matthew 9:4) .
