John Gill Commentary

John Gill Commentary
"Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing." — Matthew 5:26 (ASV)
Verily, I say to you
This may be depended upon, you may assure yourself of it, that
you shall by no means come out from there ,
from prison,
till you have paid the uttermost farthing ,
or "last farthing"; or as the Ethiopic version reads it, "till you have exactly paid all"; which seems to express the inexorableness of the creditor, and the impossibility of the debtor's release.
