SCRIPTURE

"Lest he that heareth it revile thee, And thine infamy turn not away." — Proverbs 25:10 (ASV)

Lest he that heareth [it] put you to shame
Or, "reproach you" F3 with treachery and deceit. Either the person of whom it is told, or the person to whom it is told; who may make you ashamed, either by fixing the odious character of a defamer, a whisperer, and backbiter, on you; or by making a retaliation, and in his turn make known some secret things concerning yourself, which before were not known, and, now published, will be to your disgrace; and your infamy turn not away ;
it shall stick so close to you, that you shall never get clear of it as long as you live, or ever retrieve your credit; the brand of infamy shall ever be upon you.
