SCRIPTURE

"Then David said, This is the house of Jehovah God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel. And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God. And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight; and cedar-trees without number: for the Sidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David. And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for Jehovah must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death." — 1 Chronicles 22:1-5 (ASV)

Following the terrible judgment inflicted on Israel for David's sin, God pointed out the place where he wanted the temple to be built. After this, David was moved to make preparations for this great work. Although David himself was not to build it, he resolved to do all he could and prepared abundantly before his death. What our hands find to do for God, for our souls, and for those around us, let us do it with all our might before our death, because after death there is no planning or working. And when the Lord does not use us for the services we desired, we must not be discouraged or be idle, but instead do what we can, even if in a humbler sphere.
